Gastroenterology of Greater Orlando Introduces Infusion Therapy
What is Infusion Therapy?
When people become ill with a complex disease, they may have trouble eating and taking medications orally. There are many reasons why medications are introduced into the body other than through the mouth. Some medicines cannot be given orally because the stomach acids destroy them, making them ineffective at treating the disease.
Infusion therapy is an alternative to oral intake. Instead, medications are dispensed intravenously. Traditionally this treatment method has been used only in hospitals, but now infusion therapy can be administered in our office.
What Does Infusion Therapy Treat?
Infusion therapy is usually used to treat serious or chronic infections that do not respond to oral antibiotics. Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, dehydration caused by nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, and other serious conditions such as Crohn’s disease are examples.
Gastroenterology of Greater Orlando, along with our partner OI Infusion, now offers infusion therapies as part of our medication treatment plan. This allows us to meet our patients’ unique needs with clinical expertise. Our team can monitor your infusion therapy while helping you manage side effects and avoid drug interactions. We are dedicated to making the process of managing your condition through medication as simple as possible.
Gastroenterology of Greater Orlando has set up an Infusion Center in our practice. Over the last several years, we have seen more of our patients go on infusion therapy. We believe that the best place to receive infusion therapy is in your doctor’s office. This allows for better monitoring and compliance and provides you the comfort of receiving care in a familiar setting. We desire to serve you and provide you with the best patient care possible.
We have partnered with OI Infusion to help manage aspects of our infusion center. They will handle the administrative functions of our Center, including scheduling.
At our office, we have highly trained infusion nurses. Our staff will handle all aspects of your authorization, work to find you financial assistance when possible, and do everything to ensure you receive the best care possible. In the Infusion Center, we have tablets with Netflix and other amenities, so you are comfortable. Most importantly, one of the physicians will always be in the office if there is any type of issue.
We are very excited to offer you this service, and we look forward to providing you infusion therapy. For any questions or to schedule an appointment, please call 386-387-5202.
